BIOGRAPHY
Anne Gibbs lives and works in Cardiff. She studied Fine art and Ceramics at the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff and her work has been exhibited throughout the UK and overseas.
The arrangement of objects and organising principles are major concerns in Anne’s work. Through the intervention and subversion of everyday belongings she makes work that awakens their history, intimacy and sensory qualities. She assembles collections that recall museum artefacts and archaeological finds, shifting the focus to perceive them in different ways.
“ There is a poetic domesticity about what she makes, but her art is far more one of imprintation and residue. Using familiar form - those of tools, utensils, various household objects - for her almost preternatural work, she delicately casts, weaves, builds and fuses, delineating the very act of making. With these implements and structures there is a symbiosis that suggests both the human and natural worlds.”
